Tern Island
Tern Island sits in Chatham Harbor, just across the water from the fish pier, where the town’s fishing boats unload their catch. As its name says, it was once home to a large colony of terns.
The island is a wildlife sanctuary, and conservation groups have worked to bring nesting terns and other shorebirds back to it.
[We’d like to fact-check the island’s history further before this goes live.]
